I wrote this to a long-time crush at school who I never summoned the courage to tell:

Tears In My Eyes

The air was cold,
But your eyes were on fire.
Just the look in your eyes
Stoked the coals of desire.

I've wanted you blindly,
From when I first saw you.
And my ears hear your voice,
Since I first heard you speak.

So I pick up the phone,
Punching only six numbers,
(although once I got your machine),
And I once slipped a note in your locker,
(though I was afraid I'd be seen).
My friends say you're just an addiction,
That in time the longing will die.
But tonight I still want you so much,
I can taste it;
I'm crying with tears in my eyes.

I've been scared that you'd know,
But longing you to,
Though I know my love's one-way,
I wish like a fool.

And I've called you a crush
In the depths of my mind,
But crushes should fade,
And my love never dies.

So I watch you go home,
Like a thief in the shadows,
(while mocking myself as a fool),
And the flame of my love just burns higher,
(When I wish that my feelings would cool).
I talk with my mates about 'girlfriends',
and never can talk about guys.
When I'm joking, I still think of you,
and it hurts me;
I'm lying with tears in my eyes.

It's been three long years,
Since I first saw your face,
and my misery's dragging me down.

When my parents fought,
I could still raise a smile,
But since you I've got nothing but frowns.

So I put pen to paper,
Writing far too much garbage,
(though it's better than longing in dreams).
And my heart twists whenever I see you,
(And nothing is quite what it seems).
This year I got my first boyfriend,
But to rate him like you is a lie.
If he looked, would he see in my face
Your reflection?
I'm dying with tears in my eyes...
